    Attitude of Gratitude

Today marked the 8th and final day of "camp". For the past two weeks nearly 225 campers learned and experienced "The Titan Way". It was really hard work and long days, but a lot of fun! We are so thankful for the great attitudes, concentration and effort put forth by so many of the campers and our players. However, my deepest appreciation goes out to my staff and their families. The time and energy poured into these young Titans by Coach Jim Simpson, Joseph Cooley, Cole Wil

    A.S.K. and Get Better

A-athleticism: One of our primary means to improve this area is the weight room. We have a top-notch facility with a second to none strength coach in Kurt Polhmann. Take full advantage of it! It won't be easy, but it will be worth it. My all time favorite outside of the weight room is the jump rope. Give me a dedicated player with a jump rope and 10-20 minutes a day and eventually you will find a playmaker on the court. S-skills: Webster defines skill as dexterity or coordina

    Establishing a Freethrow Ritual

Shooting a freethrow demands extreme concentration. The outcome of many games may be decided at the freethrow line. In the final minute of a game, 67% of all the points scored are from the line. We end each day of camp at the freethrow line because it's that important! Many of our daily freethrow champions have established what we call a "freethrow routine or ritual". Repetition is key to becoming a good freethrow shooter, and this can only be accomplished by shooting thousan

    Elementary Camp Underway

Our players and coaches are at it again. Another great week of skills, drills and competition are underway. Grades 9-12 started their second week of camp and many of those players are also giving back all afternoon coaching up the elementary campers. These are fantastic opportunities for everybody involved, especially the player-coaches. We are very proud of their efforts and willingness to give back! #stbbcamp #hardwork

    Grit. Grind. Toughness.

Grit. Grind. Toughness. These words are always associcated with defense. If they become who you are on the floor, it will be hard for your coach to take you off. Just what is Grit, you ask? It's a look in your eye. A tension in your stance. A bounce in your step. Grind? It's never giving up. It's sprinting the floor. It's finishing every possession. And Toughness? Defelections. Floor burns. Charges. I've often wondered if playing with these qualities is a skill that can be

    Are You Confident?

The legendary UCLA Coach John Wooden said, “Confidence comes from being prepared and demonstrated ability.” This sometimes fleeting trait is something you earn through hours and hours of preparation, and this confidence should be carried quietly. Day 2 of STBB Camp Coach Cooley talks about confidence with our daily freethrow winner. Take two minutes to see and hear for yourself! #confidence #johnwooden #stbbcamp

    Just Me and the Hoop

Around here (STBB) we are of the "growth mindset", but what exactly is a "growth mindset"? Carol Dweck says, "In a growth mindset students understand that their talents and abilities can be developed through effort, good teaching and persistence. They don't necessarily think everyone's the same or anyone can be Einstein, but they believe everyone can get smarter if they work at it." Ironically, teachers often learn as much if not more than their students, or in this case, the
